MULE TOUR DETAILS

All Tour Patrons must be physically fit to ride on their saddles 3 miles (an hour and thirty minutes) each way. The various angles of the trail requires leaning slightly back in certain areas going down and leaning forward holding on to the saddle horn coming up.

Patrons must be in good health and be physically fit with a maximum weight of 250 lbs. and at least 16 years old.

NOTE: State laws limit the age of visitors to 16 years and older and are strictly enforced.

Reservations are necessary and must be secured with valid credit card information or pre-paid check. Positions on our tour daily are very limited.

Restroom facilities are available.

Coming from Honolulu and Maui: Please let us know your intentions and we will send to you current options. Remember that your one day flights will work if the flight is on time and the weather is good.

AIRPORT-BARN TRANSFERS: There are taxi and airport transfer tour companies. Rates of these companies vary from $25 for the taxi to about $11-13 per person each way to the barn. Email us and we will try to get you the best options available on that given day.

Note to those visiting Moloka'i on a single-day trip:

Arrive on the early flights, have breakfast at the Molokai Airport Coffee Shop and also pick up something light to eat or drink to go.


HELPFUL TIPS:

CLOTHING: Comfortable (close toed) footgear like tennis or walking shoes.  Cool, loose fitting golf type shirt or t-shirt.  Trousers, jeans or longer type short pants.

WATER:  Canister or Bottled Water.

SNACKS:  If you're the type of person who gets hungry, you can pack along some nuts, trail mix or dried fruits.

Soft drinks and water are available at the mule barn (at the top only) where you check in.

SNACKS: (on the bus tour in the village)  On the bus tour, a Snack Bar and Book Store are usual stops and they ACCEPT ONLY SMALL DENOMINATIONS of cash. Nothing higher than a $20 (unless you plan to donate the balance of the whole $50 or $100 bill).

the stables...CHECK IN AT STABLES: Our location is on Hwy. #470 (Kalae Hwy.) at milepost #5 on the left side of the road. Look for the large Molokai Guided Mule Tour sign!  

Please be on time so we can keep our schedule. There may be times that the incoming flight may be a little late. We will make adjustments.

TOUR INSTRUCTIONS & BRIEFING: Discover the fun of being a "Mule Skinner" for a day! Learn how to toot the horn, where the throttle, brakes and turn signals are located, how to backup and more. Don't forget your mule's name.

Our daily objective is to have fun and provide a learning experience with ultimate safety.

MOUNT UP, HEAD FOR THE TRAIL:

The mules know exactly where they are going. "Just sit down and relax." Stay straight and enjoy the view.


10:10am
ARRIVE IN BEAUTIFUL KALAUPAPA: You will feel something very special about this place; so peaceful! No you cannot stay, the tour bus will pick you up soon.
THE TOUR BUS PICKS YOU UP: Your settlement tour begins, which includes a stop at the book store and sometimes a craft shop as well.
LUNCH: Relax in the shade with your picnic lunch, while you take in the stunning beauty of the East side of the peninsula at Kalawao.


01:30pm - 01:45pm
TIME TO HEAD HOME: Did you remember your mule's name? Your memory is your "pass" to your ride up as the trail guides will find it easier to call out your mules "name" than remember your name.


03:00pm - 03:30pm
ARRIVAL AT THE BARN: Plus or minus, depending on the amount of mules on the trail. Less mules, it will be quicker. Pick up your Mule Trail Completion Certificate. You'll cherish the memories of this ultimate adventure forever.


ATTIRE: Long pants, Bermuda shorts, shoes, caps, sun visors, sweater, windbreaker. AGE REQUIREMENT: 16 years of age. All riders must be physically fit.
RESERVATIONS: Book at least TWO WEEKS in advance or more is suggested. People who wait until they come to the island often are unable to get a position on our tour. Space is very limited.  Call us:

PAYMENTS: Required 10 working days in advance for groups of 5 or more.
MULE MATCH: Your personality, kharma, and good looks play a part in which mule you will be "matched up with".

Harley at Hele Mai Taxi cell: 808-646-0608. For a few bucks extra -ask him to take you to our town after the tour. Harley is great. He deserves this special mention.
AIR CONNECTIONS: Call for current information.

RENT A CAR: (only choice right now) Alamo: www.alamo.com Molokai Counter: 567-6381 Extn:6 This is the secret: Ask for the "ONE DAY RENTAL". Even if the website shows sold out, you often can still walk in and ask for a "ONE DAY RENTAL".
MAUI-MOLOKAI FERRY: The Mule Ride timing generally does *NOT* work for same day arrival nor departure on the Ferry.
Arriving; the Ferry will not make it in time for the Mule Ride 8am-8:10am morning check-in. Ferry pulls in to the harbor around 8:45am and unloads about 9am.
Departing; the Ferry departs Molokai at 4pm however the Mule Ride does not get back to the barn until 3:30pm -leaving little to no time to check out and make your way to the Ferry terminal.
